Warhammer 40K: Geneseed

Stardate: 5 / 15 / (988.M41)

There are men that are born. And there are men that are made. The Astartes pride themselves upon both. They go beyond the barriers of the the human body and forge one of steel and faith but are born again through the Emperor’s geneseed. The Blood Ravens, however far they search through the relics scattered across space, have been the only chapter whose Primarch has been left in history.

They say leaders are made. This is the greatest delusion ever concocted by man. Any leader who is worth his salt is a born leader. While the commissars of the Guard rest their laurels upon attaining control of their unit, those destined to be Astartes aspire to be greater. Society presents circumstances that enable one to be fashioned or moulded into a leader. That’s the greatest contribution of society to mankind – it identifies a leader from its surroundings distinguishing one from the rest.

Davian Thule rose from the ashes, as he had done countless times before, atop the bodies of his fallen enemies. Nearly a hundred Orks laid to rest by his hand as the whirring of his chainsword comes to a low hum. Driven by an unknown power, Thule’s lust for truth has taken him to the reaches of Tombworld on Kronus and the Craftworld on Ulthwe and yet he still seeks the relic that would link his and the other Blood Raven’s legacy to the God-Emperor himself. He and the other Ravens followed a trail to the Sin of Damnation, a derelict Ork vessel, in search of yet another of these relics.

To his dismay he did not find his claim and more to the fact that he had discovered that he was not alone in this vessel. Familiar scorch marks on the ceiling and floor indicated an Eldar with a warp drive seems to also have been tracking the same prize. Maximo and Sister Beatrice stood in awe as this man, nay….more than a man….walked out of the darkness, covered in black ichor. The were first to witness the elan of this born leader, this Force Commander. Thule stood before them already making his next course of action and they place their fate in his hands in hopes to reclaim the confessor whom was stolen away by the Eldar.

The Blood Raven Chapter’s 10th Battalion led by Commander Davian Thule underwent the mission to infiltrate the space hulk, Sin of Damnation. Perhaps the shoddy Orkish engineering or the collateral damage from combat..or even yet perhaps a cruel twist of fate caused the Space Hulk to come to a crashing demise on the local planet.

Sin of Damnation, came plummeting down to the surface of Typhon Primaris near the Imperial Guard outpost of San Gabriel. It was rumored to have been carrying an ancient xenos relic known to few as the Eye of Astartes. How the Orks came into possession of it nor its magical properties are still unknown. The Orks in the ship had all perished and yet the Blood Ravens emerged from the wreckage having not yet fulfilled their mission; the Eye of Astartes still remained at large.

All the while, in San Gabriel, Librarian Ezekial IV received word of the xenos relic aboard the plummeting space hulk. While he had been tasked primarily to complete the construction of the Ministorum Synod on Typhon Primaris, he felt it necessary to rally an army to reclaim the relic first. His primary force was a squadron of the Adeptus Sororitas or Sisters of Battle and the 12th and 34th Battalions of Imperial Guard.

Upon the advice of Confessor Bard Sawce, Ezekial opted to split the force and allow Sister Beatrice to accompany the Confessor in scouting the communications tower which went silent after word of the relic reached the Librarian’s ear. There they discovered a potential new threat. The guardsmen were dead or missing and the satellite destroyed by no natural means. Eveidence of xenos interference was prevalent.

The two of them pursued the tracks of a missing guardsman when they encountered Scout Ignus Maximo, a survivor of the space hulk crash who was in pursuit of a number of Ork Gretchens. Who convinced the two to help him investigate the Sin of Damnation for the relic. After encountering some xenos they’ve never seen before, the party sought shelter within the space hulk wreckage. Within the darkness, Commissar Sawce caught a brief sillouette of a woman in the black, standing over their Gretchen prey, but was abruptly taken away to interrogate a fallen Space Marine they had found in the back of the hull.

Seargent Zaphiel Avarious lay mangled clutching his bolt pistol to his heart. A fear unlike any the Commissar had ere seen before in a Space Marine. A pure fear, an honest fear, a fear of the dark that lay within. In his last breath he proclaimed Captain Davian Thule to have betrayed them, “He’s one of THEM……….”.
